After coming down to St. John for the last 15 years, we knew exactly what we liked and disliked about the rental car scene on St. Thomas and St. John. We always prefer getting our rental vehicle at the airport and taking the car ferry across (saves us almost $200 in St. Thomas Taxi fees and avoids the hassle of all the St. John rental companies closing at 5:00). Plus you load your bags up once and are done, vs. loading and unloading at the taxi, then the ferry, then the rental car on St. John. But we didn't love the much higher prices of rental vehicles at the airport.
So we decided to solve this for our guests. You can simply choose to book our Casa YaYa Toyota Tundra for your stay and it will be delivered curbside when you land at St. Thomas. Toss your bags in, sync your phone and follow your preferred GPS app to the Redhook Car Ferry, and then continue on to the house after arriving in Cruz Bay. And we are priced below St. John rental prices (and waaaay below St. Thomas).
The truck seats up to 6 in the cab, and 4 more in the bed of the truck (seats up to 10 total). The rear seats are bolted into the frame, have seat belts and a sturdy canopy structure over the top. The rear seats are always the seats our kids fight to be in, a fun way to enjoy the tropical weather and take in the views. And throwing sandy coolers, chairs and wet kids in the easy-to-hose-out back means you get to keep the inside of the vehicle clean. Did I mention there is a paddleboard rack as well?!
The truck offers 4-wheel drive, TRD off road package (bigger wheels and tires, taller suspension) and has an automatic transmission. Apple Carplay means you can sync your iPhone or Android device wirelessly to enjoy tunes, make calls or use GPS. And the backup camera makes getting out of tight spaces a snap.
PRICING
Low Season (May - November): $85 a day, plus a $75 cleaning fee.
High Season (December - April): $100 a day, plus a $75 cleaning fee.
Unlimited miles. Rental rates include all taxes and fees. No-smoking vehicle. Full refund on any cancellations with 2 weeks+ notice. Must return vehicle with full tank of gas. Separate contract and payment required.
